Tarot and creative writing

This post can be thought of a commentary on a recent post by dogboy:

[GEMINI] on having a daily tarot practice

Turns out, you *can* have a daily tarot practice, without diluting it. Of course, nobody wants to end up asking questions like "Should I have papaya or mango today?", but there are many different things you can do with tarot. One must remember foremost that _Tarot is a deck of *playing* cards_, and so, you should do just that.

Take an example from creative writing. There are lots of creative writing exercises you can do:

And you can come up with anything you can imagine and do it, the possibilities are endless. You can, if you want, consider tarot as "creative reading."

In another post, dogboy made a case for "open readings" (which is exactly the way I've read the cards for a while now), and it's a good way to stay in touch with the cards, or play with them, even if you don't make much of a question. Select any number of cards, arrange them however you like (be creative, playful even), and try to figure out what kind of story they are telling you.

Take out two cards and lay them side by side, and think of them as a "verb noun" phrase, try to figure out how many different phrases you can extrapolate from a pair of cards. Now draw three cards and think of "Subject Verb Object" sentences. Maybe some of them read more like SOV or OSV sentences? Can you draw more cards and find more complex sentences?

Here's an idea I've had recently: Use tarot as a writing prompt for your blog/journal. Or perhaps as a way to frame the entry for the day. Pick 3 cards (that's me, pick any number you like, spread them however you like), and write about your day or your thoughts using those cards as reference.

I once made a post about "conversational consultation", where I ask a question, draw one card, then ask a follow up question, draw another, and so on. Keep a conversation with the cards.

The possibilities are endless, come up with any games you want.

I recently found a tarot book called "Advanced Tarot Secrets" by Dusty White. What I found valuable about this particular book is that it is filled with exercises made to enhance one's tarot practice. If you can't come up with tarot games, you can always reach out for books like this.

This will also help boost your ability in reading the cards. The more playful you are, the better you will become.
